Phase Coexistence Properties of Polarizable Stockmayer Fluids

چکیده
We report the phase coexistence properties of polarizable Stockmayer fluids of reduced permanent dipoles |m0| = 1.0 and 2.0 and reduced polarizabilities α∗ = 0.00, 0.03, and 0.06, calculated by a series of grand canonical Monte Carlo simulations with the histogram reweighting method. In the histogram reweighting method, the distributions of density and energy calculated in Grand Canonical Monte Carlo simulations are stored in histograms and analyzed to construct the grand canonical partition function of the system. All thermodynamic properties are calculated from the grand partition function. The results are compared with Wertheim’s renormalization perturbation theory. Deviations between theory and simulation results for the coexistence envelope are near 2% for the lower dipole moment and 10 % for the higher dipole moment we studied.

Phase coexistence of a Stockmayer fluid in an applied field.
We examine two aspects of Stockmayer fluids which consists of point dipoles that additionally interact via an attractive Lennard-Jones potential. We perform Monte Carlo simulations to examine the effect of an applied field on the liquid-gas phase coexistence and show that a magnetic fluid phase does exist in the absence of an applied field. As part of the search for the magnetic fluid phase, we...

Gibbs ensemble simulation data for Stockmayer fluids with #.2 = 3.0 and #.2 = 4.0 in the reduced temperature range of 0-77 (resp. 0.80)-0"98 and presented and compared with predictions based on the perturbation theories of Stell, G., Rasaiah, J. C., and Narang, H., 1972, Molec. Phys., 23, 393; 1974, 27, 1393. The description of the reference fluid is improved by applying the modified Benedict-W...
متن کاملApplications of Wang-Landau sampling to determine phase equilibria in complex fluids.
Applications of the Wang-Landau algorithm for simulating phase coexistence at fixed temperature are presented. The number density is sampled using either volume scaling or particle insertion/deletion. The resulting algorithms, while being conceptually easy, are of comparable efficiency to existing multicanonical methods but with the advantage that neither the chemical potential nor the pressure...
متن کاملOscillatory Melting Temperature of Stockmayer Fluid in Slit Pores
The melting transition of bulk and confined Stockmayer fluids (μ = 1) is analyzed using molecular dynamic simulations. The solid−liquid coexistence temperature is evaluated using a modified three-stage pseudosupercritical transformation path. The bulk melting temperature calculated using the aforementioned method agrees well with the literature value. Melting temperatures of the Stockmayer flui...
